Temporary Shelter at New Life Church
New Life Church is a church we work closely with in Uganda. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the church could not meet government conditions for reopening for worship. The church is too small and does not have enough ventilation. An outdoor temporary shelter was the answer and Global Challenge was asked if they might help fund this. Overall costs amounted to £600, but the fantastic youth group at the church helped to reduce the costs by helping to construct the shelter. Not only that, but the covering has to be put up before each service and then taken down afterwards, a regular task that the youth also do. Well done them!
After the Sunday service on 21 November 2021, our coordinator’s daughter, Ruth and another worker, Faith, gave a special talk and then gave out toothpaste and sanitary items to the children. Our coordinator, Abraham said:
“Many of their (the children’s) parents have never brought such items home in a long time…People are suffering!”
Abraham, who is also the Minister of New Life Church, says that if they receive ministry funds again, they are thinking of buying pants and other necessities for the children and girls in the church again.
Ruth, who graduated as a Social Worker last year, worked at Crossroads School helping students after the first lockdown in Uganda. She now volunteers for a local organisation, who will hopefully start paying her in the new year. She will then be able to fund herself through a Masters degree that she is planning to do. Global Challenge hope to utilise her talents at Crossroads School again in the future.
