Redressing the Balance

Billy’s Project Report February/March 2021

Billy Outeke, our Special Needs local representative in Uganda, sent us his report.

Billy writes: “Christian greetings to you. I trust that you’re well. I am well and thank God everyday for his great love as we serve him.”

The children are back at Ngora School for the Deaf and sitting exams. Reports of late attendance are being addressed as well as positive feedback about some students resuming their studies at the school next term.

At Global Challenge, we believe that giving people a way of being self-sufficient is the best way to help them out of poverty. It is our pleasure to announce that the families of Magdalene Akol, Isaac Opwata and Tom Aromait have received goats!

The families of Mary Ajago, Jonathan Opit and Janet Asege have each received a pair of chickens!

We continue to support Rose Asege, a valued volunteer for Global Challenge in Soroti, in her endeavours to be self sufficient as she recently lost her sight. Billy has put forward a list of Rose’s needs for the trustees to consider. Funds to provide a cane have been greatly appreciated. Although Rose has not been feeling too well lately, we are glad to hear that she is gradually accepting of her situation and that her mum and elder brother are being very helpful.

Billy’s bike needed a few repairs and is now back on the road (with a few issues that will be sorted over time), thanks to funds from Global Challenge. Billy writes: “Thank you so much for your timely response and care for my safety. I am grateful.”

As mentioned in our March update about the passing of Mark, who many people here in Thanet supported, Billy writes “The burial ceremony went well. The number of mourners was overwhelming and it was such a beautiful service.”

Jane, eulogizing her son, Mark, at the burial grounds at the village. To her right is the girl Global Challenge has been facilitating to help Jane care for Mark. She was there until the end.
A message of gratitude from Jane, Mark’s Mother.

Finally, Billy reports on Posiano, a volunteer with Global Challenge’s Special Needs Project. Unfortunatley he lost his livestock to disease and so has been generating income by fishing. Billy writes: “Posiano received his gift and was able to purchase fishing nets last week. He is so grateful to you for your generosity.”
