Redressing the Balance

Rose Asege

To mark International Women’s Day 2021, we would like to celebrate the work and achievements of one of our Global Challenge volunteers, devoted to helping families in Soroti, Uganda.

Rose!

As a volunteer, Rose identified the needs of Jennifer, a single mother, to enable her to build her own home and acquire livestock. Jennifer, suffering from HIV and whose husband had HIV, was forced to live with her in-laws when he died. Unfortunately this became very challenging. With Rose’s support, Jennifer purchased the raw materials to make her own bricks and built her own hut.

When the UK team visited Uganda and led training on Speech and Language, Rose attended the training and learnt all about speech and language difficulties, the root cause of some conditions, and how to support. She learnt about autism and so was able to offer support and ongoing therapy to families after the UK team left.

Because of Rose’s ongoing care and support, she has been able to positively alter the life chances of many families and children she has come into contact with.

It is with sadness that we have to report that Rose has lost her sight, but we will continue to support her in her endeavours to be self sufficient as she now has to live with her parents.

Thank you, Rose!

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
